Eternity | BELIEVE | Kasey Robinson

KEY QUESTION: What happens next?

Eternity is part of our humanity.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human

heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

We hope for eternity because sin has created suffering and death.

KEY VERSE: Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:1–3 (NIV)

When I’m with Jesus, I’m with life.

25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will

live, even though they die; 26and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.

John 11:25–26 (NIV)

It was the disciples’ hope in Jesus being life which gave them the courage to face

suffering and even death.

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we[b] boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! Romans 5:1-9 (NIV)

Being with Jesus forever is the hope of my salvation because to have Jesus is to have life.

Heaven is life with God.

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:1-4 (NIV)

Hell is without God and, therefore, without life.

KEY IDEA: I believe there is a heaven and a hell and that Jesus will return to judge all people and to establish his eternal kingdom.

Jesus invites me to receive His life by believing in Him so I can live eternally with

God and with God’s people.

Will I be with Jesus after I die?

Key Question: How does God see us?

Key Idea: I believe all people are loved by God and need Jesus Christ as their Savior

Key Verse: God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

“I believe all people are loved by God…

  • You are a whoever…so is everyone else.

  • We need to see people the way God sees them.

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:11)

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. (James 3:9)

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)

…and need Jesus Christ as their savior”

  • If people don’t believe in Jesus nothing else really matters

  • You don’t need to clean up to come in; you come in to clean up.

  • Come as you are, knowing God has no intention of keeping you there.

Key Question: How do I have a relationship with God?

Genesis 3:

To cover our sin, it will require the shedding of another’s blood

Exodus 12:21-23

To have death “pass over” your home, you need the blood of the lamb covered over the doorframe of your house.

Luke 23:40-43

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)

Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. (1 Corinthians 5:7)

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. (1 Peter 1:18-19)

Key Question: How do I have a relationship with God?

For death to “Passover” you, and have an eternal relationship with God, you must have the blood of Christ covered over the doorframe of your life.

But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:40-43)

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”

Big Idea: I believe God is involved in and cares about my daily life.

THE TWO MOVEMENTS OF GENESIS 16: FIRST GOD SEES HAGAR AND SECOND, HAGAR SEES GOD.

pg 30

The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” Genesis 16:7

GOD SEES HAGAR BY FINDING HER.

GOD SEES HAGAR BY CALLING HER BY NAME.

GOD SEES HAGAR BY ENGAGING THE DETAILS OF HER LIFE.

to your mistress and submit to her.”

10 The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

11 The angel of the Lord also said to her:

“You are now pregnant

and you will give birth to a son.

You shall name him Ishmael,[a]

I lift up my eyes to the mountains -

where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord,

the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2

MOVE #1: FIRST GOD SEES ME.

PG 41

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:26-27

Immanence: God is present and active in nature and history. Quite simply God is near.

First, God sees you.

In what area of your life are you on Broken Boulevard? Where do you need to just admit you are lost and need found?

How can you be still this week and listen for God to speak your name?

How can you be more open to and aware of God’s involvement in your life?

Then, you see God.

What warped images of God do you need to let go of?

How is the image of God in your heart too small?

How is the image of God in your heart too distant?
