Strengthen Your Connection with Your Teen at Parent Night

Join us for parent night, an evening designed specifically for parents of students in grade 6th-12th. This is a time to connect, have fun, and learn how to open lines of communication with your teenager. We'll share practical tips, encourage one another and refocus on the heart of our student ministry - parenting with you to help your student grow in their faith. The evening will include a delicious meal, interactive activities, and inspiring discussion on how to better understand and engage with your teenager.

Find Support and Encouragement at Our Monthly Foster Adoption Network

1st Tuesday of the month | 6-7:30p | WFC Lenexa

Foster and Adoptive parents, please join us as we gather for our monthly Foster Adoption Network.  This will be a time for you to share your struggles and successes, and maybe you will pick up a tip or two from others who have been there.  We will provide support and encouragement to each other as we walk this unpredictable path.  Dinner and childcare will be provided.

At Westside, we are committed to meeting people in their place of pain, and because we know that trauma impacts so many, we offer a one-day Trauma Competent Caregiver course. This training is for anyone who wants to demonstrate compassion, love, and empathy to their community.

This one-day training offers insight into the impact of trauma on individuals and how it manifests in attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. You will leave this workshop with helpful techniques and approaches to care for individuals who have experienced trauma.

Event Fee:
$25

Check-in starts at 8:30 a. Training will begin promptly at 9a and end promptly at 3p.

*KINGDOM WORKER NIGHTS March 19th- We don't gather on campuses. We encourage our students to serve in their homes or neighborhoods. 

We love that our kids ask questions; it means they are growing in stature, awareness, and knowledge. Sometimes, they ask questions we know the answers to, and sometimes, we might know the answer but find it hard to answer in a way they will understand. In Westside Kids Ministry, we get asked a lot of questions, and we love to take time to answer their questions thoroughly. Sometimes, we need more time to converse and discuss the questions. This November, we would like to invite kids (1st-5th grade) and their parents to a salvation/baptism/communion class.

This will be a two-week course (1st-week salvation/baptism and 2nd-week communion) to discuss salvation, baptism, and why we take communion. You and your child will learn the meaning of salvation, baptism, and communion, why each is important, and do so in a fun, family-friendly environment. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and, hopefully, many answers to the questions of salvation, baptism, and communion.

The issues at the US-Mexico border are complicated, multi-layered, and complex. As we try to raise awareness and fill in the gaps of the immigration story not seen in the media, we invite you to join us for a 3-day Border Encounter. This experience will give you the opportunity to hear from a wide variety of perspectives from US Border Patrol, immigration legal services, migrant shelters, local nonprofits serving in both relief and development capacities, and people seeking asylum in the U.S. This team will be led by Michelle Simbaqueva + Matt Adams.

Westside is sponsoring a week at Joy Meadows Summer Camp, where children impacted by foster care and adoption can connect, heal, and experience the love of Jesus in a trauma-informed setting. Volunteers are vital to providing fun, nature-based activities, meals, and relational support for these amazing kids.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

• Camp Counselors: Lead small groups of 3 campers.

• Station Leaders: Facilitate activities like art, nature, and games.

• Lunch Team: Prepare and serve meals.

• Activity Support: Assist with games, swimming, and transportation.

Training (4 sessions) and a background check are required. Daily debriefing and opportunities for ongoing connection with the kids are provided. Join us to make a difference in the lives of these children and their caregivers!

Pack your bags, grab your family and join us on mission in Central America. Guatemala offers a great opportunity to serve together. We are partnering with local churches in Monjas. Westside families will serve alongside Guatemalan families as they reach into their communities with children’s programs, working with foster families, and engaging in community-wide activities to unite the local Monjas churches.

Journey with us to Northern Thailand where we will spend time at our One Life sites in the beautiful mountains. Our team will serve alongside our One Life staff at a kid's camp and engage in community outreach at a remote Westside church plant in the Khun Nan National Park where we will spend time with the hill tribe children in jungle villages. This trip will be led by Paul Chang.
