Our Values | Randy Frazee | I 💙 My Church
Going Deeper
1. Write down what you think your top four values are for your personal life.
2. If a consultant followed you around for two weeks, which of these four values do you think they would say are true of your life and which ones are aspirational?
3. Of Westside’s seven values, which one gets you the most excited?
4. Which one do you think will be the most challenging?
Teaching Notes
Our values drive the decisions we make
How we get there matters.
Values are like Guardrails - they are boundaries that keep us on track.
Our 7 Values:
Jesus – It’s all about Jesus
“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”
Philippians 3:8
Unity – We are better together
“…that they may be one as we are one.”
John 17:22
Prayer – We won’t move without prayer
“When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.”
John 8:28
God’s Word – We live and die by it
“Jesus answered Satan when Satan was tempting him in the garden, ‘It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Matthew 4:4
Faith – We are Kingdom risk-takers
“We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name…Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching…”
Acts 5:28
“We must obey God rather than human beings!”
Acts 5:29
Their value is driving their decisions and actions.
“They ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.”
Acts 5:40
The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
Acts 5:41-42
The Lost, The Last, The Least – This is who we pursue
“Jesus said, ‘Truly I tell you, whenever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”
Matthew 25:40
“When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
Luke 14:12-14
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…”
James 1:27
Generosity – God is generous, so are we
“…he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
Titus 3:5-7
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
Proverbs 11:25
