The Battle Begins

Teaching Notes

Three Weapons of Divine Warfare

Joshua applies these, and we can to in our battle plans...

1.People Identified with God.

2. People of Prayer.

You can be strong and courageous because the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9

The Lord said, ‘Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? Israel has sinned...that is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies...

Joshua 7:10-12

3. People of the Word.

Keep this book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Joshua 1:8

Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law-the blessings and the curses-just as it is written in the book of the Law. There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded that Joshua did not read to the whole assembly of Israel, including the women, children, and the foreigners who lived in the land among them.

Joshua 8:34

So Joshua took the entire land, just as the Lord had directed Moses, and he gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war.

Joshua 11:23

Two Reasons

Divine Justice

After the Lord your God has driven them out before you, do not say to yourself, ‘The Lord has brought me here to take possession of this land because of my righteousness.’ No, it is on account of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is going to drive them out before you. It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nations, the Lord your God will drive them out before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Deuteronomy 9:4-6

In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.

Genesis 15:16

Establishing His Name
