How God Uses Our Pain for His Purpose | JT Olson | REMIX: MISSION
Teaching Notes
What’s wrong with using a life’s savings to save a life?
We’re not all called to adopt, but we are all called to look after widows and orphans.
You can choose a life of impact over ease.
I don’t want Satan checking the box that says, “not a threat”.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10
I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten--the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts, and the locust swarm—my great army that I sent among you.
Joel 2:25
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…
Hebrews 10:24
Going Deeper Discussion
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
Gal. 4:4-6
And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
2 Cor. 6:18
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:27
1. After reading the above verses, what is Gods posture towards spiritual orphans? What does he do for them? What are the benefits?
2. As Christ followers who walk in imitation of Jesus, how do we connect God's heart to adopt us into his family with our hearts for the orphan/foster children in our society?
3. What are some practical ways we can "look after widows and orphans in their distress?"
4. What are some thing we can do sooner than later as a family or A2 group?
