Rise Above | Randy Frazee | Summer 2020

Going Deeper Discussion

  1. We are taught not to discuss religion or politics. We are doing both today. Are we mature enough to have an honest discussion about this topic?

  2. Read each of the Bible passages out loud for the four topics and discuss how they speak to that issue.

  3. Which one is the easiest for you to embrace? Why?

  4. Which one do you struggle with the most? Why?

Teaching Notes

Jesus is calling us to Rise Above the noise & hatred & declare our complete allegiance to him.

For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears,β€―many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.β€―Their destinyβ€―is destruction, their god is their stomach,β€―and their glory is in their shame.β€―Their mind is set on earthly things.β€―But our citizenshipβ€―is in heaven.β€―And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,β€―who, by the powerβ€―that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodiesβ€―so that they will be like his glorious body.

Philippians 3:18-20

4 Issues Jesus is super clear about:

  • Christians ought to be sold out for racial justice. (Ephesians 2:14-16)

  • Christians should be deeply concerned about the poor. (Matthew 25:37-40)

  • Christians should be pro-life. (Psalm 139:13-16)

  • Christians should believe that, at least for Christians, sex should only be between a man and woman in marriage. (Genesis 1:27; 2:24)

Problem:

Democrats own the first two and the Republicans own the other two

Solution:

  • We must keep Jesus and the gospel the main focus.

  • We must teach what Jesus says about all four topics.

  • We must align our lives to what Jesus teaches
