Created Uniquely for Others

Teaching Notes

God did something new in us the day we received Christ into our lives.

God places us into the Body of Christ so that our various gifts can work in harmony to accomplish the full will of God.

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by[c] one Spirit so as to form one bodyβ€”whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or freeβ€”and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.  Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, β€œBecause I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.  And if the ear should say, β€œBecause I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.  The eye cannot say to the hand, β€œI don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, β€œI don’t need you!” β€¦If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

1 Corinthians 12:12-21, 26

Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience…

1 Timothy 4:18-19

I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:3-7

We were given our gift to serve others.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

1 Peter 4:10
