Boys in Crisis
Teaching Notes
Is there really a boy crisis?
Boys are declining in a dramatic way in virtually every key metric.
Young men between 25-31 are 66% more likely than their female counterparts to be living with their parents.
Between the ages of 15-19, boys commit suicide at four times the rate of girls.
US jail and prison population increased by more than 700% between 1973-2013. 93% are males (mostly young males.)
Boys are graduating at 1/2 the rate as girls.
Girls are not looking for boys who are dropouts.
Single women are now buying their own homes at 2 1/2 times the rate of single men.
Boys IQ’s have dropped 15 points since the 1980s.
Boys’ physical development and puberty have been disrupted while it has accelerated for girls.
Boys today have sperm counts less than half of what their grandfathers had at the same age.
Dads-to-be are almost twice as likely to prefer a daughter to a son.
What does the Bible say about boys?
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27
But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.
Genesis 6:18-20
Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.
1 Corinthians 16:13-14
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
1 Corinthians 13:11
“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’
1 Kings 2:2-4

Our boys need their dads to help them get back up, to help them win. And if the dad is not around for whatever reason, we need granddads to step it up, uncles, and neighbors, and other Christian men who are not only strong and courageous but do everything they do driven by love.
