Get Kiddish

Teaching Notes

People were also bringing babies to Jesus to have him touch them.  When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

Luke 18:15-17

Kids Get Wonder

“...to him who alone does great wonders,

His love endures forever.

who by his understanding made the heavens,

His love endures forever.

who spread out the earth upon the waters,

His love endures forever.

who made the great lights—

His love endures forever.

the sun to govern the day,

His love endures forever.

the moon and stars to govern the night;

His love endures forever.

Psalm 136:4-9

Children know how to stand in awe of the small, ordinary things in their world and see the specialness that they contain.  As a child you knew how to open yourself to the world and engage with it in a way that was uncluttered by thinking and talking. You knew how to allow yourself to be captured by something, not simply think about it.  You knew how to let it get you rather than you simply get it.  And you knew how to remain wordlessly with whatever was holding your attention. This knowing by way of wonder that comes so naturally to children is an important part of the reason that Jesus urged his followers to become like little children.

David Benner (Opening to God)

“...to him who alone does great wonders,

His love endures forever.

Psalm 136:4

Kids Get Faith

“However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

Luke 18:8

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.   – Albert Einstein
