Upcoming Classes

At Westside, we are committed to meeting people in their place of pain, and because we know that trauma impacts so many, we offer a one-day Trauma Competent Caregiver course. This training is for anyone who wants to demonstrate compassion, love, and empathy to their community.

This one-day training offers insight into the impact of trauma on individuals and how it manifests in attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. You will leave this workshop with helpful techniques and approaches to care for individuals who have experienced trauma.

LOCATION:
Training is located at Westside Family Church - 8500 Woodsonia Drive in Lenexa.

TIME:
Trainings will start promptly at 9:00am and end promptly at 3:00pm. Check-in starts at 8:30am

  • Lunch & Snacks provided - Lunch will be provided around noon, along with some snacks throughout the day.

    Water provided
    We will have water available all day but you will need to bring any additional beverages you may want.

  • Yourself!
    All training materials will be provided.

  • This training is eligible for 5.5 hours for foster parents as well as 4.3 from KDHE

Class Instructors

Connie Horosz, MA, LCPC, LPC

Connie Horosz is the Care and Counseling Director at Westside Family Church. She holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. She is a clinically licensed counselor in Kansas and Missouri and is a board-approved clinical supervisor. In addition, she is EMDR trained, a Trauma Free World trainer, and a SYMBIS facilitator. Connie is passionate about integrating God’s truth with clinical approaches to care. Connie is married to Damien, and they have three adult children and one son-in-law. She enjoys hiking with her three dogs, reading, and spending time with family.

Jen Decker-McMillen, M. Ed.

Jen has been the Foster Adoption Ministry Director at Westside Family Church for more than 10 years. Her experience as an adoptive parent, growing up in an adoptive family, coupled with a Masters of Education Degree in Neuroscience and Trauma, give her unique insight into supporting foster and adoptive families. When Jen isn’t with her kids you will find her laughing over coffee with friends or looking for her wallet, keys, and phone.
