Holistic Care in Rayavarum Village, India | Global Impact
Many have seen and heard of New Life Children's Home in India where most of our One Life India children reside, but you may not realize we also support children and families outside of the campus walls.
In a village called Rayavaram, One Life has established a care center where 18 children and their families are supported. This a more wholistic approach to orphan and vulnerable child care. The sponsored children of this care center live at home with their parents and families. Some of them are orphans and semi-orphans who may live with an aunt, uncle, or grandparent. Each of these families participate in the microfinance program supported by Westside Family Church. The families have developed their own businesses from making brooms, tailoring and snack shops. They are proud of the lives they have built for their families and the businesses they are able to call their own.
The children meet at the care center every day after school. They attend local government and private schools during the day. In the evenings, when they come together, they have time for studies and they participate in evening prayer and worship where they learn new songs and bible stories. The pastor from New Life Children's Home visits them once a week to prayer with them and teach a lesson. They receive a snack each afternoon as well as dinner before returning home each evening. Visiting the care center, joyful faces await your arrival. In worship, the voices may be few, but their songs are sweet and sincere as they worship Jesus.
Support for Rayavaram not only benefits the children in need, but provides the opportunity to share the gospel with their families. Reaching families is the key to changing lives long term. Through the joint efforts of care center leaders, pastors, and sponsors, we are not only seeing women empowerment and strengthened families, but we are also furthering the kingdom of Heaven.
