Fit to Fight for the Family Celebration | Unite KC

On August 13, Unite KC, a grassroots non-profit organization centered on promoting racial healing and unity in Kansas City, sponsored special dinner and Royals game experience for approximately 500 people from Westside Family Church and Macedonia Baptist Church at Kaufman stadium. The private event celebrated the two churches commitment to promoting healthy family and relationships through the Fit to Fight for the Family series.

Earlier in the year, the two churches decided to tackle the topic together after Pastors Randy Frazee of Westside Family Church and John Brooks of Macedonia Baptist Church recognized it was a hot issue challenging many people in both of their communities.

As Westside finished the series in early August and passed the baton to Macedonia to begin theirs, the two communities came together to celebrate what God has done, is doing and will continue to do in our families.

“It was an exciting evening to gather with our friends at Macedonia for our Fit to Fight for our Family initiative under the banner of Unite KC,” Frazee said. “We believe relationships centered in Christ will win the day for our families and with racial unity.”

Unite KC, which sponsored the celebration through its “churches domain” agrees, and was especially encouraged to see the diverse crowd which gathered.

“As I approached the pavilion, I could see people from all walks of life coming to celebrate their relationships and the concept of togetherness,” said Ray Jarrett, Executive Director of Unite KC. “I’m starting to sense a level of comfort among this growing group of believers; it’s an awareness that we truly have more in common than we’ve been led to believe.”

Nearly 500 couples (representing almost 1,000 people!) from Westside have already completed the Better Love assessments, participated in training and completed the date night activities. Additionally, more than 150 individuals (over the age of 16) took the YADA assessment and joined small group experiences! We anticipate hundreds more to do the same as Macedonia gets their series under way. Praise God!

“My husband and I sat by Ray and Lorna Jarrett at the game,” said Connie Horosz, Westside Care Ministry Director. “We were discussing how powerful it was to have provided tickets to the celebration to over 500 people. Every person there had the same vision of coming together as one Church to build relationships that impact our community.”

If you missed out on the Fit to Fight for our Family or small group curriculum, don’t worry – it isn’t too late!

This fall our high school youth will go through the YADA assessments and curriculum. And, in October, relationship experts Les and Leslie Parrott will visit Westside, bringing their fun “Fight Night” date night / training opportunity. The Better Love and Yada content will continue to be available to Westside A2 Communities.
