Friday, March 20, 2020, Westside Family Church hosted a resource drive benefiting our community partners, foster/adoption agency partners and school partners.  With short notice, we didn’t know quite what to expect, but you helped us spread the word – fast!

Thanks to your help and generosity, Westside filled four pickup trucks and a cargo van with food and supplies! Not only that, but our teams immediately went to work making nearly 50 home deliveries to foster families caring for 150 local children. The remaining resources were sent to Avenue of Life, which serves approximately 400 Wyandotte County families (approximately 1,200 children) living at, or below, the poverty line. These agencies are critical links to serving food-insecure families and homeless children.

“This is an incredible response,” said Matt Adams. “And to think people only had 24 hours of notice! We are the body of Christ and it is truly humbling to watch our community not only step up, but involve others outside the church in this important mission to help the most vulnerable in our community.”

Jen Decker was on the team of people who worked tirelessly to deliver care boxes to foster families following Friday’s drive.

“For each family we visited, these resources came as a huge relief” said Decker. “Just to know someone sees them, sees their need, and is working to help stand in the gap for their families was an incredible encouragement evidenced through tears, words, and in some cases, speechlessness. It was – and is – an honor to steward the community’s gifts in this way.”

A huge thank you to KMBC News who also helped inform the greater community of this opportunity to help others.

We anticipate additional needs will arise in the coming days and weeks for these families and community partners.  Stay connected through our Community Care • WFC Facebook group for more opportunities to meet the need in our community and beyond.
