Breaking the Stigma: Mental Health Resources for All

The Through the Valley series explores the topic of mental health through a Biblical lens, but perhaps the most important messages we hope people hear are that it’s okay to not be okay and seeking help is always the right next step.

If you are struggling with emotional, physical, or spiritual strife in your life, you do not have to go it alone.   At Westside, there are a variety of resources available to help you at different phases of your mental health journey. Click the links below for more information:

Westside’s Care Ministry exists to support your spiritual, emotional, and psychological growth and offers a safe place for people to find hope and healing. In addition to counseling sessions, our Care and Counseling ministry offers a number of other support options which may be the right fit for you. Complete a care request, and one of our team members will typically respond within 48 hours. If you or someone you know are struggling with thoughts of suicide, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline offers immediate response and help for people in distress. Simply text 988. For life-threatening emergencies, call 911.

Care Groups are supportive environments designed to help you find encouragement and accountability in addressing emotional, behavioral, and spiritual challenges. Community is an important component of mental health. In fact, according to a study published in the Journal of Community Psychology, researchers have found that people who participate in community-based activities experience fewer symptoms of depression and anxiety than those who don’t. The American Journal of Community Psychology also published another study that found social connectedness (fostered through community participation) was a significant predictor of positive mental health outcomes such as life satisfaction and happiness.

There are many ways you can build community into your life.

At Westside, we encourage you to find a group with whom you can do life together. Westside offers a variety of groups, including A2 Groups, which provide excellent places to connect with others and build relationships.

Westside also offers a variety of opportunities to serve within the church building, in our local community, and around the globe!
